The first independent seminar of Working Group 1 was held at Cambridge University on 19 and 20 September 2024, where members of the working group presented their papers related to new nationalisms, geopolitical shifts and higher education.

Working group 1 is working to develop a genealogy of key concepts, by bringing together different bodies of scholarship. The next independent Working Group 1 meeting will be held in Vienna on 25 and 26 September 2025, where they will follow up on research relating to new nationalisms, shifting geopolitics and higher education and continue the work on a genealogy around these issues. A call for papers for the Vienna meeting will be sent out at a later date.
