Profile

Umberto Alibrandi has a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering, structural engineering. His main expertise is in Structural Reliability, Uncertainty Quantification, Risk Analysis, Machine Learning and AI. Recently has proposed the (i) Risk Digital Twin of structures and infrastructures, (ii) design framework of Sustainable Resilient Engineering, (iii) Quantum Physics Bayesian Networks, (iv) Quantum Physics Stochastic Neural Networks. Umberto's current projects aim at (i) developing novel probability framework grounded on Quantum Mechanics for predictions of complex systems under uncertainty, (ii) technology and algorithms for digital twins of structures and infrastructures, (iii) intelligent and autonomous systems (including drones and digital twins), (iv) Disaster Risk Management and Urban Resilience through digital tools.

Research

I work in the broad area of Computational Intelligence, by developing tools and methods of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Quantum Mechanics, Performance Based Engineering, Uncertainty Quantification and Risk Analysis, Decision Support Tool for academia and industry for more than 20 years.

My current research interests focus on the development of new Quantum Physics AI tools for regenerative and resilient design. I am also going to develop the Quantum Physics Digital Twin  for lifecycle asset management.

Teaching activities

My teaching is about AI, statistics and Machine Learning, Uncertainty Quantification and Risk Analysis for Sustainable and Resilient design.
