I am the group leader of the Biomedical & Pervasive Systems resesrch group and PI of several research projects situated within my group. Besides the research, I teach at the Computer Engineerng and Biomedical Engineering programmes at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Aarhus University, Denmark.
I conduct basic and applied research within the biomedical & pervasive systems research areas. My main research interest lies within pervasive healthcare topics, including ambient assisted living, telemonitoring, and telemedicine. All of these topics build on distributed systems and artificial intelligence. Here, together with my research group and national and international collaborators, I focus on creating open science and open source tools and platforms for supporting healthcare research. This implies following a mainly sensor-based computational and data-driven approach with the purpose of improving human health and well-being while also enhancing the delivery of healthcare and staff efficiency. This is motivated by the constant demand for sustainable, participatory, preventive, personalized, economically tractable and better healthcare for all.
Our research projects are mainly grounded in the hospital, nursing home, and home settings, where we use ambient, wearable and healthcare sensors and devices to support patients and citizens through coaching and monitoring. Research examples include: a) disease, disability and treatment monitoring and coaching in the hospital and home settings, b) predictive analytics for early disease onset detection and progression, and c) co-creation & participatory design for creating the optimal user experience.

My teaching obligations are within the Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering programmes. Specifically, I teach in the courses Computer Engineering Project II, with a focus on developing and documenting distributed systems, in the Telemonitoring Project I, which has a focus on creating full stack telemonitoring projects, Advanced Telemedicine, which focuses on creating next level telemedicine systems, and finally I give a course on Pervasive Computing, with a focus on next generation of IT systems. Especially Intelligent Environments and Smart Spaces, combined with Internet of Things (IoT) and Distributed Systems, are my main areas of interest and competence. I accept students for BSc, R&D , Master, and PhD projects. All students work within my research field.
