Kjeld Hermansen is adjunct professor in human and clinical nutrition at Institute for Sport and Nutrition at Copenhagen University and associate professor in clinical nutrition at Aarhus University.  Has been Chairman of the Danish Endocrine Society, President for The Diabetes and Nutrition Study Group under the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), Member of the Danish Council on Health and Disease Prevention.

Main applicant and leader of the management group in Innovationfondens “Dairy lipids, proteins and the Metabolic Syndrome (Dairy Health)” (2011 – 2016), Member of the management The Strategic Research Council programs e.g. DANORC (2007 – 12), Biofunctional Carbohydrates (BioFunCarb) (2008 – 2014)), Enhanced butyrate production to improve colonic health and insulin sensitivity (ButCoIns) 2011 - 2015) , Metabolic changes by carbohydratE and pRotein qualIty in the development and mitigation of meTabolic Syndrome (MERITS) (2015 – 2019), High Amylose Barley products preventing type 2 diabetes (HIAMBA) (2020 – 2024) and Nordic Center of Excellence under Nordic Ministry Council “A healthy Nordic Diet in the prevention of the metabolic syndrome (SYSDIET) 2007 – ongoing and the KANWU (Kuopio Aarhus Napoli Wollongong and Uppsala) group - 2005).

Has published more than 390 articels in national and international journals, book chapter etc. Has published a monography on Coffee, , Aarhus University Edition 2023.

Research

Extensive experience with human intervention studies in relation to nutritional intervention to prevent development of metabolic syndrome and type 2-diabetes.

Investigation of the impact of  healthy Nordic diet on insulin resistance, lipid- and carbohydrate metabolism.
