I study Amazonian rain forest ecology and biogeography. One question is why bamboos have a life cycle that includes just one flowering event that is synchronised to happen simultaneously with millions of individuals in the same population. In southwestern Amazonia, large areas of forest canopy are dominated by bamboo. The flowering can be observed by satellite images and I use them in combination with field data to test hypotheses explaining this phenomenon.
I've a 50% position as a Teaching professor. I'm teaching in courses on terrestrial plant morphology, Danish flora and the fungal kingdom.
