Research

Jesper Heile Christensen has been Senior Scientist since 1997 at ENVS/AU. His key qualifications are atmospheric modelling, especially in development of chemical atmospheric transport models and weather forecast models and application of models for air quality assessment. The research includes long range transport modelling of air pollution especially for the Arctic areas, intercontinental transport of pollution and weather and air pollution forecast modelling on local and regional scales. He has developed the 3-D air pollution model system, Danish Eulerian Hemispheric Model (DEHM), which is central in the international AMAP (Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program) programme and in many of the atmospheric model activities at ENVS/AU. DEHM contributes also to the CAMS operational ensemble of regional air quality forecast and analysis in Europe (http://atmosphere.copernicus.eu), where he is one of the key persons in the development the Danish part of the CAMS regional system. He is also a key person in development of the THOR system in Denmark, an Integrated Air Pollution Forecasting and Scenario Management System. The system includes meteorological and air pollution models capable of operating for different applications and scales, from regional over urban background to individual streets. Furthermore, he is involve in compiling emissions inventories for shipping activities around the Nordic countries and especially for the Arctic.
